QLD - Ethical Hunting, Bush Skills & Firearms Education + Overnight Camp – Kilkivan

This immersive education experience combines ethical hunting principles, bush skills, firearms education, modern hunting technology, and hands-on food preparation, finishing with an overnight camp and shared cook-up.

The day brings together two existing education courses into one comprehensive program, designed to explain not only how hunting is done, but why it matters, covering conservation outcomes, sustainability, and responsible land and wildlife management.

 Butchering & Cooking (Live Demonstration)

A significant portion of the day is dedicated to field-to-plate education using a deer and a goat. This session focuses on respectful and complete use of harvested animals and includes:

• Breaking down and processing game meat

• Sausage making

• Kabana and salami demonstrations

• Cooking methods and meat care

• A shared cook-up using the prepared meat

This component demonstrates ethical harvest, minimal waste, and practical skills participants can apply in the field.

 Bush Skills & Fieldcraft

Participants will receive practical instruction in:

• Bush skills and fieldcraft

• Water filtering and purification methods

• Fire management and safe fire-starting

• General survival considerations for remote environments

 Firearms, Shooting & Modern Hunting Technology

Education sessions include:

• Firearms fundamentals and safe handling

• Overview of hunting firearms

• Knives and their correct use in hunting and field situations

• High-tech hunting equipment, including thermal scopes and spotters

• Clay shooting and target shooting in a controlled environment

Participants will have the opportunity to see, learn about, and use a range of modern hunting technology under supervision, giving insight into how these tools are used responsibly in real-world hunting applications.

Once all firearms demonstrations and shooting activities have concluded, firearms will be made safe and secured.

 Evening Camp & Wind-Down

After firearms activities are complete, the day transitions into a relaxed evening camp.

Participants are welcome to enjoy celebration drinks, followed by:

• An overnight camp on site

• A shared meal from the day’s cook-up

• Campfire discussion and informal Q&A

You can bring your own camping gear or if needed you can borrow one of our swags 

 NSW State Forest Hunting Pathway (Optional)

An accredited instructor is available to run the NSW DPI hunting course, which provides the qualification required to legally hunt within NSW State Forests.

This course can be completed separately by those who wish to obtain formal certification.
